Midweek Tennis

It looks like Alert Level 2 is here for a while. We are playing Midweek tennis as usual, but with the extra precautions of either using the QR code or signing in on entry, using the hand sanitiser and maintaining social distancing. Like before, if you are feeling unwell please stay home.

Our summer season will commence on Thursday 3 September (provided the weather is fine) with a fun tournament, spot prizes and pot luck lunch. Everyone is welcome, and you can bring a friend. During our summer season we will begin play at 9.30am each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Further details about events during the summer season will be posted soon.

Club Working Bee – Sunday 11th June 2023

Please join us for a tidy up around the club between 8am-2pm as we prepare for the Khandallah Open Squash Tournament on 16-17 June.

Tasks are to include but not limited to:

  1. Make sure the Bar, kitchen and lounge is clean (Include vacuuming and mopping behind the bar
  2. Tea towels washed, dried and returned to the club before the Squash tournament which takes place on 16/17 June.
  3. Cleaning the changing rooms
  4. Cleaning the fridge
  5. Clean Sauna
  6. Replace lights on squash courts (Will need a few people to help lift the ladder onto the courts)
  7. Sweep the squash courts
  8. Replace tape on the squash courts if required
  9. Clean behind courts (include vacuuming behind the courts and viewing areas)
  10. Clean the viewing areas (There is lots of cobwebs around the windows)

Your help would be appreciated. 

Junior Squash club nights – Friday’s

Junior Squash Club nights commence on Friday 28th April and run each Friday throughout Terms 2 & 3.

Time 5-6.30pm

Supper is available in the kitchen afterwards

Free for members and $5 for non-members. Racquets are available and organised games will be run. Designed for kids between 8-18 years old.

Job vacancy – Club Manager!

We are looking for a Club Manager with strong administrative, management, social media and people
skills, initiative and a passion for Tennis and Squash.

The Club Manager is the public face, and the driving force of our Club. You will need to understand and
respond to the needs of our members, and have a keen eye for marketing, financial growth, sponsorship and community initiatives, for the benefit of our Club. A key component of the position will be working with Contractors as we have a number of maintenance projects that we anticipate undertaking in the near future. There is plenty of room to innovate and make this role your own.

This is a flexible, part-time (30 hours per week), permanent position based at the Khandallah Tennis and Squash Club, Delhi Crescent, Khandallah, Wellington.

Background
The Khandallah Tennis and Squash Club was established in 1899. It is a family orientated, community based tennis and squash club with approximately 500 tennis and squash members. The club has 7 tennis courts, 4 squash courts, lounge, kitchen, bar changing rooms and sauna. It also has an onsite retail shop, resident tennis coaching school and squash coach.

– A Bar licence is an advantage.

Winter Squash Interclub – call for entries

There are 3 Winter Interclub competitions running over 10 weeks: Men’s (Tuesday nights), and Women’s and Masters (both Wednesdays).

The start date is 2/3 May, with bye rounds 6/7 and 18/19 July. Finals will be 25/26 July.

If you are interested in playing interclub please email KTSC Interclub Convenor Chris Hunt chris.tjen@xtra.co.nz. Entries close Friday 14 April. Interclub caters for all levels of ability, and we’ll do our best to place you in a team with others of a comparable standard. To be eligible, you must be a paid-up KTSC member, and have a Squash NZ grading. If you are interested but don’t have a grading, please let Chris know and he will provide instructions on how to obtain one.

2023 KTSC Senior Tennis Club Champs – Entries Open Now!

Registration:

Eligibility:

  • Open to all KTSC Senior Members (or a KTSC Junior / Intermediate member who has played Tecnifibre Interclub).

Dates:

  • Registrations close 6 March
  • Tournament will be run progressively using Sunday afternoons starting 12th March and Friday evenings, through to 26 March. If entrants are unable to make one of the times, then there might be a possibility to schedule another day that suits both parties provided this is within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Once registrations close on 6 March, we will be able to more accurately provide match times in advance of games.

Other details

  • Cost (payable at the first match): $5 for each event entered.
  • No catering provided however the bar will be open.
  • Draws – final draws will depend on the number of entries / event.

Autumn Squash Interclub – call for entries

The squash interclub season is upon us, with the Autumn competition starting in late February – not to be confused with KTSC’s own in-house Innerclub competition which will run on Thursdays from 16 February through to 30 March.

Autumn interclub has two competitions: Mens on Tuesday nights beginning 28 February, and Women’s beginning 1 March. Both competitions will be played over 6 weeks with 4 teams per division (i.e. 3 home and away matches).

Squash Innerclub – Autumn 2023

Our Autumn edition of Squash Innerclub starts on Thursday the 16th February and go through until Thursday 30th March. There will not be a game on Thursday 9 March as we will be hosting the first round of the Masters tournaments.

This is a social squash event that runs for 6 weeks on Thursday nights. You enter as an individual player, but we arrange everyone into teams – and each week you get to play someone of a similar level from another team. All games are held at the Khandallah courts, as this is an in-house competition.

This is a fun event, and is a great way to meet other players and get some regular games. We also open this up to non-members too, so if you have friends who would like to give squash a go for a few weeks then encourage them to enter too.

Entry fee is $10 for members and $30 for non-members.  Each week there’s a light supper and quiz. The final will be on Thursday 30th March.

Waitangi Day Parent & Child Fun Tennis Tournament

The popular Waitangi Day parent & child doubles tournament is back, on Waitangi Day, Monday 6 Feb, commencing at 10am.

Entry Fee: $15 per doubles pairing – with prizes to be won!

Format: ‘Parent’ & child round robin tournament with everyone playing at least 3 rounds. Draws will be dependent on player ability with different divisions. Pending entries, we will look to run a novice division (for juniors playing in the Tennis Hot Shots grade).

Scoring: First to seven games. Tie-breaker at 6 all. Sudden death on first deuce.

Eligibility: Child must be a junior member. Parent need not be a member. Note that parents can only be registered with one child.

JuniorsFridays

3.30-5pm – Junior Community Play – designed for 5-10 year olds. Coaches available to help juniors learn to play tennis. Non-members welcome. Food available from 5pm, and bar open at 5pm.

5-6.30pm – Junior Club night – designed for 8-16 year olds, or interclub players. Coaches available.  

Free for members, $5 for non-members.

Junior Tennis Community Play and Junior Club night

Our Junior Tennis Community Play and Junior Club nights commences this Friday 21st October from 3.30pm.

Community Play is from 3.30-5pm and is designed for children aged 5-10 years old learning to play tennis. It’s run by coaches and the cost is $5 per non-members (free for junior members). Racquets are provided. No registration necessary. Pizza or hotdogs and ice blocks available in clubhouse afterwards!

Junior Club night is from 5-6.30pm for interclub players, or those aged 8 – 17 years. Also run by coaches and free for all members ($5 non-members)! Food also provided in the club house afterwards. Parents & families all welcome to come for a drink in the bar which opens at 5pm. Bring your friends!
